MICRONEEDLING
FOR SKIN RENEWAL + TEXTURE
Microneedling at Selah is designed to support your skin’s natural renewal process and improve overall skin quality over time. By creating controlled microchannels in the skin, treatment helps stimulate collagen and elastin production, which can soften the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and acne scarring.
Each treatment is tailored to your skin, concerns, and goals, with a focus on gradual, natural-looking improvement rather than dramatic change. For best results, microneedling is typically recommended as a series of treatments, allowing your skin time to repair, rebuild, and respond between sessions.
Before Your Appointment
Medical Clearance
Before any treatment, all clients must complete a medical evaluation to review health history and confirm that treatment is appropriate. At Selah, medical clearance is renewed annually and should be updated with any significant changes to your health, medications, or medical history. A current clearance must be on file before treatment.
Healthy + Bare Skin
Please arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and no active irritation, rash, infection, open areas, or active cold sores in the treatment area. If your skin is unusually sensitive or you are feeling unwell, contact Selah before your appointment. Treatment may need to be rescheduled for your safety.
Prepare Your Skin
Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and other potentially irritating active products for several days before treatment. Minimize excessive sun exposure and avoid arriving with sunburned or recently irritated skin. If you are unsure about a product in your routine, contact Selah before your appointment.
At Your Appointment
-
We’ll start by reviewing your skin concerns, goals, medical history, and current skincare routine. Your treatment will be tailored to your skin and the areas you’d like to address.
-
Microneedling can be used on more than just the face. Treatment is customized based on your skin concerns, treatment goals, and the area being addressed.
Face – Helps improve overall texture, tone, fine lines, pores, and acne scarring
Neck – Supports smoother texture and improved skin quality
Décolletage – Helps address uneven texture, fine lines, and sun-related changes
Hands – Can improve the appearance of crepey texture and overall skin quality
Acne Scars – Targeted treatment can help soften the appearance of certain types of acne scarring
Stretch Marks – May help improve texture and the appearance of some stretch marks on the body
-
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepared for treatment. A topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to help keep you comfortable.
-
A professional microneedling device creates controlled microchannels in the skin to support its natural repair and renewal process. Treatment depth is adjusted based on the area being treated, your skin, and your individual goals.
-
Your skin may appear pink or red and feel warm or tight immediately afterward. We’ll review your post-treatment skincare and aftercare instructions before you leave so you know exactly what to expect.
After Your Appointment
When To Contact Selah
Some redness, warmth, tenderness, and mild swelling are expected after microneedling. Contact Selah if you develop increasing pain, significant swelling, blistering, drainage, spreading redness, signs of infection, or anything that feels unusual or concerning.
If you have a history of cold sores, contact us if you notice tingling, blistering, or other signs of an outbreak.
The First 24 Hours
Expect Redness + Warmth
Your skin may look and feel similar to a mild sunburn, with redness, warmth, tightness, or mild swelling. These effects are expected and generally begin improving within the first day or two.
Keep Your Skin Clean
Avoid touching your face unnecessarily. When cleansing, use clean hands, lukewarm water, and a gentle cleanser. Pat dry rather than rubbing.
Hold Off on Makeup
Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment to allow the skin barrier time to recover and reduce the risk of irritation or introducing bacteria.
Skip Exercise + Heat
Avoid strenuous exercise, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and other activities that cause excessive heat or sweating for the first 24 hours.
The First 48–72 Hours
Keep Skincare Simple
Stick with a gentle cleanser, hydrating products recommended by your provider, and simple skincare while your skin recovers. Avoid anything that stings, burns, or feels irritating.
Protect Your Skin From the Sun
Your skin may be more sensitive to UV exposure after treatment. Limit direct sun exposure and use an unscented, mineral based sunscreen once your skin is comfortable tolerating it.
Don't Pick or Peel
Mild dryness, flaking, or rough texture can occur as your skin heals. Allow it to shed naturally rather than exfoliating or picking at the skin.
The First Week
Your Skin May Feel Different
Temporary dryness, tightness, mild flaking, or a slightly rough texture can be normal. Continue gentle skincare and let your skin recover at its own pace.
Gradually Resume Your Routine
Once redness, sensitivity, and flaking have resolved, you can slowly begin returning to your normal skincare routine. Reintroduce active ingredients gradually rather than all at once.
Keep Up the SPF
Daily sun protection is especially important after microneedling. Use broad-spectrum SPF and limit unnecessary direct sun exposure while your skin continues to recover.
The Next Few Weeks
Give Your Skin Time to Respond
Unlike some treatments, microneedling results develop gradually. Your skin’s renewal process continues well beyond the initial healing period, and improvements in texture, tone, and overall skin quality may become more noticeable over the following weeks.
Stay Consistent
Microneedling is often performed as a series of treatments depending on your skin concerns and goals. Your provider will recommend an appropriate treatment schedule based on how your skin responds.
Your Questions, Answered
-
Microneedling can help improve the appearance of uneven texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scars, and overall skin quality. Your treatment plan will depend on your skin concerns and goals.
-
Microneedling creates tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin. This triggers the skin’s natural repair response and supports the production and remodeling of collagen and elastin over time.
-
A topical numbing cream is typically used before treatment to improve comfort. You may still feel pressure, vibration, or mild prickling, particularly in more sensitive areas.
-
Yes. Depending on your skin, treatment plan, and goals, a professional product will be used during microneedling to support hydration, glide, and treatment results. Additional topical enhancements may also be incorporated when appropriate.
Products are selected specifically for microneedling and tailored to your skin type, treatment goals, and individual needs.
-
Microneedling is typically most effective when performed as a series. Most clients begin with 3–4 treatments spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, depending on their skin, treatment depth, and goals. More significant concerns, such as acne scarring or deeper texture changes, may require additional sessions. After the initial series, periodic maintenance treatments can help support and preserve your results.
-
Your skin may begin to look brighter and more refreshed once the initial redness settles, but microneedling results continue to develop gradually as the skin renews itself. Improvements in texture and overall skin quality may become more noticeable over the following weeks.
-
Downtime is generally minimal, although redness, warmth, tightness, dryness, or mild swelling can occur for the first few days. Some clients also experience temporary flaking or a slightly rough texture as the skin recovers.
-
Microneedling may be appropriate for many healthy adults looking to improve skin texture and overall skin quality. It may not be recommended with certain active skin conditions, infections, impaired healing, or other medical considerations. We’ll review your history and skin before treatment to determine whether microneedling is appropriate for you.
