LIP ENHANCEMENT
FOR SUBTLE SHAPE, BALANCE + DEFINITION
Lip enhancement at Selah is designed to refine what’s already yours. Treatment is individualized to your natural lip shape, facial proportions, and goals, whether you’re looking for subtle definition, improved symmetry, restored volume, or a little more hydration and softness.
Our approach is conservative and intentional, with careful attention to balance, movement, and proportion. The goal is never to create a dramatic or overfilled look, but to enhance your lips in a way that feels soft, natural, and completely in harmony with your features.
Before Your Appointment
Medical Clearance
Before any treatment, all clients must complete a medical evaluation to review health history and confirm that treatment is appropriate. At Selah, medical clearance is renewed annually and should be updated with any significant changes to your health, medications, or medical history. A current clearance must be on file before treatment.
Healthy + Bare Skin
Please arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and no active irritation, infection, or open areas around the lips. If you are feeling unwell or have a rash, cold sore, or other skin concern near the treatment area, contact Selah before your appointment. Treatment may need to be rescheduled for your safety.
Plan Ahead
Swelling and bruising are common after lip filler and can be noticeable for several days. Schedule your appointment with enough time before important events, photos, or travel for swelling to settle. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know before treatment so appropriate precautions can be discussed.
At Your Appointment
-
We’ll talk through what you like about your lips, what you’d like to change, your treatment history, and what is realistically achievable with filler. Your natural anatomy always guides the plan.
-
Lip filler is placed strategically and conservatively, with attention to shape, proportion, symmetry, and movement. Comfort and safety are prioritized throughout the treatment.
-
Swelling and bruising are common after lip filler and can temporarily make your lips appear larger or uneven while they heal. Results become more representative of the final outcome as swelling settles over the following days and weeks.
-
We use FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler from established manufacturers and follow appropriate clinical standards for product sourcing, storage, preparation, and administration.
After Your Appointment
When to Contact Selah Immediately
Severe or increasing pain, unusual blanching or discoloration, skin that feels cool, worsening asymmetry with pain, or anything that feels concerning or unexpected should be reported promptly.
Seek emergency care immediately for any vision changes, severe eye pain, or sudden neurologic symptoms.
The First 24 Hours
Expect Swelling
Swelling, tenderness, firmness, and mild bruising are normal after lip filler. Your lips may look fuller or slightly uneven while swelling develops and begins to settle.
No Touching
Avoid rubbing, massaging, or applying firm pressure to your lips unless specifically instructed by your provider. Minimize unnecessary pressure on the treated area, including sleeping directly on your face.
Use a Cool Compress
A clean, cool compress can help with swelling & discomfort. Apply gently for short periods at a time, careful to press lightly on the lips.
Avoid Strenuous Activity and Heat
Skip vigorous exercise, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and other high-heat activities for the remainder of the day. These can temporarily increase swelling and bruising.
Avoid Alcohol
Alcohol can contribute to bruising and swelling, so it’s best to avoid it for the first few days following treatment.
The First 48–72 Hours
Swelling May Peak
Swelling often looks most noticeable during the first day or two before gradually improving. Temporary asymmetry during this time can be completely normal as each side settles differently.
Be Gentle with Skincare + Makeup
Keep the area clean and avoid harsh skincare, exfoliation, or unnecessary manipulation around the lips. Wait until the injection sites have closed before applying makeup directly over them.
Give Your Lips Time
Try not to judge your result while you’re swollen. What you see during the first few days is not your final outcome.
The First Week
Bruising + Tenderness Should Improve
Most swelling and tenderness should gradually decrease throughout the week. Bruising may take a little longer to completely resolve.
Some Firmness Can Be Normal
Your lips may feel firmer than usual or you may notice small areas of swelling as the filler settles. Avoid massaging or manipulating these areas unless Selah specifically instructs you to.
Protect Your Lips
Keep your lips hydrated and protected from excessive sun or heat while they heal. Continue treating the area gently.
The Next Few Weeks
Let Your Results Settle
Allow approximately two weeks for swelling to fully resolve and your lips to settle into their final shape and softness.
Your Final Result Takes Time
Once healing is complete, we can better evaluate your shape, symmetry, and overall result. Any concerns about your outcome are best assessed after the initial healing period unless something feels unusual sooner.
Your Questions, Answered
-
Lip filler is a medical procedure and, like any injectable treatment, carries risks. These can range from temporary swelling and bruising to rare but serious complications such as vascular occlusion. Treatment begins with an assessment of your anatomy and medical history, and safety guides every treatment decision at Selah.
-
That’s not the goal. At Selah, lip enhancement is approached conservatively, with careful attention to your natural anatomy, proportions, and facial features. The focus is on subtle shape, balance, and definition rather than creating a dramatic or one-size-fits-all look.
-
There isn’t a standard amount that works for everyone. The amount used depends on your natural lip anatomy, treatment history, and goals. We’ll discuss what is appropriate for you during your consultation and may recommend building results gradually rather than trying to achieve everything in one appointment.
-
Swelling, tenderness, firmness, and bruising are common during the first several days. Your lips may temporarily look larger or slightly uneven while swelling resolves. Although much of the swelling improves within the first week, it can take around two weeks for your lips to fully settle and for the final result to become more apparent.
Most clients can return to normal daily activities, but swelling and bruising can be noticeable for several days. It’s a good idea to schedule your treatment well ahead of an important event, photo session, or special occasion rather than immediately beforehand.
-
Longevity varies depending on the product used, your metabolism, the amount placed, and your individual anatomy. Hyaluronic acid lip filler commonly lasts a year or longer, although some clients may notice changes sooner.
-
You’ll likely feel some pressure, pinching, or tenderness during treatment, but comfort is a priority throughout the appointment. Our hyaluronic acid fillers also contain lidocaine, which helps make the treatment more comfortable as it progresses.
-
Hyaluronic acid filler can typically be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate. Dissolving may be recommended for aesthetic concerns or, more urgently, if a complication requires it.
-
Lip injections can sometimes trigger a cold-sore outbreak in people with a history of herpes simplex. Please let us know before your appointment, even if you haven’t had an outbreak recently, so we can determine whether additional precautions are appropriate.
